SOUTHDOWN: SINGLE DECKERS
SOUTHDOWN: SINGLE DECKERS
Throughout the 1960s the Leyland Leopard surved Southdown for both single deck bus and coach requirements. The single deck buses were bodied by a variety of manufacturers to standard B.E.T. design. The first batch of 24, with Marshall bodywork, differed slightly by having curved roofs at the rear, the 110 vehicles having the curved B.E.T. screens front and rear.
Pictured below, left are no. 666, whist on loan to East Kent, prior to sale to that operator, at Hythe in 1971. Right: Seen departing Hailsham, also in 1971, is no. 130 (also with Marshall bodywork) with Willowbrook-bodied no. 168 behind.
Lower view, left: Showing the rear view, no. 151, one of twenty with Weymann bodywork, at Etchingham Station, wearing N.B.C. livery, in February 1978.
Lower view, right: Also from the 1966 batch with Weymann bodywork, no. 158, in North Street, Hailsham, wears traditional Southdown livery, in this April 1970 view.
