RIGHTON HOVE & DISTRIC

TRANSPORT

The 1938 an Agreement between Brighton Corporation Transport Dept. and Brighton Hove & District Omnibus Company Ltd was reached whereby vehicles from both fleets would share a common livery of red with cream window surrounds and roof. A common fleetname was adopted similar to that shown above, the Corporation vehicles being allowed to carry the town crest. Where possible identical vehicles were to be operated. As part of the Agreement the Corporation would replace their tram fleet with trolley and motor buses. BH&D also built up a fleet of eleven trolleybuses and as such had the distinction of being the only Tilling company to do so. Routes and mileage were pooled, 27.5% to the Corporation and 72.5% to BH&D. The Agreement commenced on 1st April 1939. A summary of routes at the time is given below.
