THE B.A.T.S. operating area
and the bus routes
As well as the bus services in both Brighton and Hove, the B.A.T.S. Agreement extended west to cover Shoreham (including Shoreham Beach), east to Telscombe Tye, and north as far as Devil`s Dyke, Patcham and Falmer. In addition to stage carriage services, contract and schools services were included, as were the cross-boundary country services of Southdown. However, the Southdown coaching activities were excluded. Apart from Southdown`s cross-boundary services, all Road Service Licences were issued not to the three individual operators but rather to B.A.T.S. allowing authority for any of the three operators to operate any particular service.
Listed below are routes as initially operated under the B.A.T.S. Agreement. BH&D are shown with red background, Brighton Corporation with blue background, Southdown with green background, and jointly worked BCT/BH&D routes with cream background.
